K-pop artist G-Dragon has become a professor in the mechanical engineering department of a Korean university




The well-known Korean singer and rapper G-Dragon, whose real name is Kwon Jiyong, is expanding his professional profile by taking a visiting professor position at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science & Technology (KAIST).

According to a contract that was signed by KAIST and the 35-year-old's agency, Galaxy Corporation, he would provide leadership lectures in the mechanical engineering department of the institution until 2026.

The 35-year-old frontman of BIGBANG will be planning cultural events and giving leadership classes.

As part of the deal, G-Dragon will collaborate with KAIST to construct artist avatars and conduct research in the fields of artificial intelligence, robotics, and the metaverse.
 
"It is a privilege to be named a visiting professor at KAIST, the birthplace of many brilliant scientists," G-Dragon stated in his acceptance address on Wednesday, 5 June.

"I'm excited about the incredible symbiosis, or 'Big Bang,' that will happen when my experience in entertainment combines with the best scientists and technologists in the field," he continued.

He said during a panel discussion that his lectures will provide students with perspective and understanding of the world that will enable them to pioneer in their own sectors, even if the specifics of the course still need to be made public.

Also, the King of K-pop is preparing for a comeback, besides taking on a new role as a professor, it
will be his first solo album in seven years.
