Jennie from Blackpink is receiving backlash for allegedly smoking indoors

K-pop singer Jennie of Blackpink has sparked debate after it was purported that she was seen smoking indoors.

The singer reportedly posted a video on YouTube on July 2 that featured her getting ready backstage to be a model for a Jacquemus concert in Capri, Italy, according to The Korea Times.

In the video, Jennie is seen getting her hair and cosmetics done. It appears like she is clutching and using an electronic cigarette. She is shown puffing and letting out smoke while receiving care from her carers.

Even though the video was eventually taken down, Jennie's actions have drawn criticism for being careless, particularly concerning the employees who work nearby.

"Do celebrities think indoor smoking is standard?" inquired one online user.

Another person said, "Hold off, even if you want to smoke."

According to Korea JoongAng Daily, a netizen has reported Jennie's smoking indoors to the Korean embassy in Italy. The netizen claims that the scene was captured on camera in Capri and is calling for a thorough investigation and stringent measures.

The 28-year-old singer, whose real name is Kim Jennie, was born in Seoul and spent five years studying in New Zealand before making her stage debut in 2016 with Blackpink.

2018 saw the release of her debut solo single, "Solo." Being the first song by a Korean female solo artist to reach the top of many international charts, "You & Me" also made a record in the U.K. Singles Downloads Chart.

Additionally, Jennie has had a significant influence on the fashion business, standing in for well-known labels like Calvin Klein and Chanel.

According to the South China Morning Post, her estimated net worth, excluding inheritance, is USD 10 million. It is reported that her mother has stock in CJ E&M, a well-known South Korean entertainment corporation.

After her contract with Blackpink's management company, YG Entertainment, expired in November of last year, Jennie established her own agency, Odd Atelier (OA). As stated on its social media accounts, OA is committed to "creating new things that attract attention in a different way from what is usual or expected."

Jennie is still handled by OA for her solo endeavors, but YG Entertainment is in charge of her group activities with Blackpink.
